Social media is a way for connecting with individuals. However, the goals of our social media usage are personal. The goals should be explicit as per how your posts appear and trend of posts. In a course, I was recently asked to reflect on my recent posts and I found a common trend in my posts. They are personal and my shared posts involve attending events with close family and friends. They also include some of my travels.

But what is my social media goal?

As per Chen (2017) we should constantly create and revisit our social media goals via a ‘SMART’ method:

Specific

Measurable

Achievable

Realistic

Time sensitive

Goals may include: increase brand awareness, improve Return On Investment, create a loyal fan-base, and increase approachibility/connections.

These goals may be for ultimately increasing sales for a company or personally, to increase connections with people with similar interests.

Measures of achievement may be via “likes”, comments, and post shares (Chen, 2017).

I think it is important to focus your social media identity and introduce, reach out and achieve your goal in such manner. The benefits of social media outreach are far, and for noble causes and nurturing connections with others. The greatest of efforts will be to always keep focus on yourself and your goal, rather than simply being a follower.
